Lessons of a Sunburned Teen – Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen

Back in high school the seniors went on one end of the year fun filled field trip to the beach. In my case the trip was exactly one week before graduation and unofficially marked the end of the school year for the graduating class. Back in the day the depleting ozone layer was all the rage and sunscreens were competing to be the best. Unfortunately the best meant the most obvious war paint you can imagine. No teenage guy was going to plaster their face with sunscreen when all of the graduating class of girls were there too… at least that was my logic.
After a full day of surfing the waves with the glare of the sun and reflection of the water baking my skin with constant UV my face was left feeling a little hot. That evening the temperature of my face seemed to soar ever higher and by the next day I discovered that I had roasted my skin. By the time graduation rolled around a week later I was well in to the peeling phase with sheets of skin flaking off my face just in time for my graduation photos; as an added bonus the primary color of my high school was maroon red! It was not funny to be reminded over and over that I matched the gowns! We learn many lessons through our childhood and my biggest came during this graduation experience… protecting your skin from the damaging rays of the sun is vitally important.

Dermatologists recommend the daily application of sunscreen of at least 30 SPF to provide long-term protection from the damage and aging caused by UV rays.
Now let’s focus on Juice Beauty Sport Sunscreen. (We have an article briefly introducing
Juice Beauty‘s passion for innovation.)The Juice Beauty SPF 30 Sport Sunscreen is designed for all skin types and all ages. The Juice Beauty Sport Sunscreen is perfectly formulated for guys with ingredients like organic coconut, aloe and jojoba providing antioxidant-rich hydration. The chemical free broad spectrum sun protection is also water resistant and will not vanish if things get a bit sweaty. The great thing about this product is that it is non-oily and goes on clean and clear with no streaks of white or need for war paint. As part of a regular daily ritual the application of a sunscreen to your exposed skin can be one of the most beneficial steps you can take in keeping a young complexion. The damage from the sun is one of the quickest ways to age yourself and overdoing it can cause unflattering peeling and flaking of damaged skin cells. Unless your primary business colors are a shade of red it is good advice to protect your skin on a daily basis and avoid the un-pleasant side-affects of sunburned skin.

Formulated without parabens, petroleum, propylene or butylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, pesticides, phthalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances the Juice Beauty Sport sunscreen is the perfect choice for guys looking for a quality sunscreen. The standard size 3.75 OZ squeeze bottle is reasonably priced and should last you over 2 months of daily applications. Avoid the burn experienced by a stupid teenager and protect your skin the right way daily with Juice Beauty Sport Sunscreen.

How Soap Can Save Your Family $500 This Year

What would you do with an extra $500 at the end of the year? How would you feel knowing that your children and pets are safe from chemicals that are known to cause cancer and other diseases? A close friend of mine is always coming up with clever ways to save money so that she can plan vacations with her family. I, however, am not one to skimp on my morning latte to reward my future self, so I usually just listen to her latest plans with admiration and sometimes a little bit of envy. But after hearing about her latest plan to save $500 and create a safer home without making any sacrifices, I couldn’t help but do the same. Want in on the secret? It’s simple: start cleaning your house with Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap.

Step 1 Go Nayked with Dr. Bronner

An average four-person family spends $800/year on household cleaning supplies. We buy these products with the intention of keeping our families safe from germs, yet many of them can cause severe health problems. The good news is that you can replace some of the most expensive and harmful products with Dr. Bronner’s soap, and find safe alternatives for the rest at our GO-NAYKED marketplace. Most families report that 64 ounces of Dr. Bronner’s soap will last them at least a year; you can get 64 ounces here for $32.38. This soap can replace over half of the items on your cleaning supply shopping list and effectively save you up to $500/year.

Step 2 Choose the Products that You Want to Replace

At Go-Nayked, we’ve tested the different recommended uses of Dr. Bronner’s soap to find the most effective, cost-effective, and healthful ways to use it. The first thing we recommend replacing is your pest spray. Pesticides are expensive, bad for the environment, associated with a wide range of health problems, and are particularly concerning for families with young children and pets. Laundry detergent is another expensive cleaning product that often contains carcinogens and hormone disruptors. Toilet bowl cleaners contain chemicals that are known to damage the respiratory system, while chemicals in many all-purpose cleaners and window cleaners are neurotoxins. Fortunately, you can protect your family from these effects while saving hundreds of dollars a year by simply replacing these products with a little Dr. Bronner DIY magic.

Step 3: DIY Recipes

Pesticide: Fill a reusable spray bottle with 4 cups of water and 1 table spoon of soap, and add a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Bonus Tip: To help the solution stick to the plants, add two tablespoons of olive oil.

Laundry Detergent: Use ½ cup of soap per load. Bonus Tip: Add ½ cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle to fight lint and static cling.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner: Buy or reuse an old squeeze bottle and fill it with 1 part soap and 4 parts water. Bonus Tip: sprinkle baking soda on the brush to act as an abrasive and a deodorizer

All-purpose Cleaner: Fill a reusable spray bottle with 1 part water and 1 part soap. Bonus Tip: Fill a container with water and orange peels and let sit for 24 hours. Strain water into the spray bottle and add soap for a clean, citrus scent.

Window Cleaner: To remove grime from windows add 1 Tbsp. soap to 4 cups of water. Bonus Tip: Follow with a 1:1 vinegar/water solution for a streak-free clean.

Now that you’re armed with this knowledge, you can take the first step towards wealth and health; get the soap here and start saving!

Deodorant facts you didn’t want to know Part 2

Welcome back! You have taken the right decision to switch to natural deodorants that are non-toxic and are devoid of hidden chemicals. applauds your choice and is committed to helping you choose well!

We had started off with a list of toxic ingredients that are commonly found in deodorants. Here are a few more chemicals to watch out for.

Listed as a cryptic string of alphabets (to laymen), phthalates are responsible for the sweet scent of the deodorant. Look out for DHP, DBP5, dibutyl phthalates and DEHP. They can affect fetal development and the reproductive system itself.

Trietanolamine and Diethanolamine. They don’t sit on the tongue easily, do they? Why then, should they sit on your skin all day, every day? These toxins can seep into your skin and impair your kidneys and liver. Europe has banned the use of this carcinogen.

So, would you rather sweat and stink than have a daily dose of toxins enter your body, via a deodorant? It would be quite a task to search for and isolate toxin-free deodorants, and harder still to sniff test each of them! Moreover, natural deodorants have always been viewed (read smelled) with skepticism. How could something mild, gentle, and subtle, mask strong body odor?

Breathe easy! conducted a thorough search and discovered several such products. In fact, you’d be spoiled for choice! And the great news is that many of these natural deodorants are available on our online store!

Deodorant facts you didn’t want to know (1)

There is this famous anecdote involving Jennifer Lawrence (of ‘Hunger Games’ fame), her best friend Laura Simpson, and Brad Pitt, at the Oscars. When Simpson ventured backstage to meet Brad, she staggered, as an overpowering scent assaulted her senses…She asked Brad about the cologne he was wearing and he said he didn’t wear any, but just smelt good, naturally! Brad doesn’t need a ‘Pitt’ stop? That’s cool!

Nothing can be compared to the embarrassment of sweaty underarms, except perhaps the unpleasant odor that accompanies it! No wonder, every day begins with a generous spray of your favorite deodorant. The sweet fragrance gives you a heady feel of freshness and confidence. Deodorants are invariably ‘armed’ with antiperspirants. So, no more annoying sweat stains or  mortifying body odor. Aha, what a perfect way to start a day! Think again.

Deodorants are among the array of personal care products you use on a daily basis. Most of us choose a deodorant depending on how good it smells, or on how effective it is in masking bad odor. Even though you meticulously sniff through a range of deodorants and antiperspirants before buying one, you fail to smell anything fishy. This is because you haven’t looked at the list of its ingredients yet (if you ever look, that is). Most of the conventional deodorants have a list of toxic and dubious chemicals in them. Very often, there is not a whiff of truth when a deodorant is labeled, ‘Natural’. ( helps you identify and avoid such toxic ingredients in deodorants.) Take a look at the top toxins.

This is the primary ingredient in most antiperspirants. It is added to block the pores and prevent natural sweating. Aluminum is a heavy metal and it interferes with the estrogen receptors of the breast cells. Since estrogen promotes the growth of both cancerous and non-cancerous cells in the breast, using aluminum-based compounds in deodorants may be a risk factor in the development of breast and prostate cancer. Of course, no definite link has been established yet, but researchers continue to study this possibility. Read this: Aluminum, antiperspirants and breast cancer

This chemical is an artificial preservative and is the most harmful of additives. You use them in a plethora of skin care products like lotion, sunscreen, and shaving products, and in many cosmetics like lipstick, concealer and foundation. All forms of this chemical end with the name, ‘Paraben’ and promote the growth of breast cancer cells.

Propylene Glycol
This is a drying agent or humectant found in deodorants. It is a neurotoxin that can cause skin and eye irritation, gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, or even kidney and liver damage. Beware! Even the ‘natural’ deodorants contain this chemical.

This is an antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agent used in manufacturing processes as an antimicrobial agent. It is an established endocrine disruptor and is suspected to be a carcinogen. Shockingly, triclosan is detectable in blood, human breast milk and urine samples. What this toxin is doing in a deodorant is anybody’s guess!

There are other chemicals you must watch out for. But the good news is that natural and safe deodorants are just a click away! Is that hard to believe? We promise you that the next part of this article will be an eye-opener. You just wait!
